Think celebrities don’t have to cope with hair loss? Think again. Female celebrities struggle with many issues that you struggle with, including hair loss. Here are seven examples:
- Naomi Campbell
Naomi Campbell deservedly gained many benefits due to her career as a supermodel. However, her hair suffered due to years of hair extensions, and she now has bald spots. Her hair loss is due to a condition called traction alopecia. Campbell hides her bald spots with certain haircuts and weaves. Unfortunately, the only treatment for traction alopecia is simply to stop wearing extensions and weaves.
- Christina Aguilera
Christina Aguilera also suffers from traction alopecia. Her long, lustrous blonde hair has become one of her characteristic assets. But years of extensions and hydrogen peroxide have damaged her hair to the point where she must cover bald patches with wigs. While her hair may have grown back since 2003 when her condition was first revealed, in some cases traction alopecia is permanent and irreversible.
- Dolly Parton
Dolly Parton is famous for her talent, voice, and her big hair. However, she began to wear a wig, especially as she aged, since her hair began to suffer from the harsh treatment of teasing and bleaching. There are also reports stating that the singer possibly suffers from alopecia areata, a condition in which the body’s immune system attacks the hair follicles and causes hair loss on the scalp, face, or body.
- Victoria Beckham
Victoria Beckham has bald spots due to traction alopecia. She has also had her hair fall out due to the changing hormones that come with pregnancy. Many pregnant women and new mothers are shocked when their hair begins to fall out. However, once hormone levels return to normal, hair should stop falling out, and within several months should start growing back.
- Keira Knightley
Keira Knightley admitted recently that she’d been wearing wigs for years due to hair loss. She stated that her hair literally fell out of her head due to various movie roles. A combination of stress and frequent hair coloring caused her to lose her hair. The actress wore wigs to protect her hair and allow it to grow back. Also, in Keira’s case, hormone changes from pregnancy actually caused her hair to grow fuller and thicker.
- Debra Messing
Debra Messing is also reported to have suffered hair loss due to pregnancy. While the changes in hormones didn’t appear to cause extreme hair loss that might lead to bald spots, there was a noticeable change. Her hair appeared thinner, and her part widened. A combination of a healthy diet and a return to her normal hormone levels halted the hair loss.
- Rosie O’Donnell
In May of 2016, Rosie O’Donnell tweeted a picture of herself pointing out bald and thinning patches of hair on her head with the comment “male pattern baldness. Aging is fun.” For many women, aging is a common cause of hair loss. Changing hormones, especially after the menopause, can cause women to lose thickness and volume. Certain conditions, like autoimmune disease and androgenetic alopecia, can appear, as you get older. Furthermore, some medications can cause hair loss, and you may be more likely to take medication when you’re older.
Female celebrities may seem perfect, but they can suffer many of the same issues everyone else suffers with, including hair loss. However, with treatment, hair loss can be halted or even reversed if caught early.
