wigs

There are many reasons you might be considering a wig. It could be that you suffer from alopecia or another condition that has made you lose your hair. You might be going through chemo, or perhaps you want to protect your natural hair. After all, your hair goes through damage from both the environment and heat styling tools. So, if you wish to repair it, wigs can be a great choice.

You might also be looking to switch up your look without the commitment. For example, if you want to try a different color or different length of hair. No matter the reason, when you start looking for a wig, the choices can be overwhelming. One of the main choices you’ll need to make is whether you opt for a synthetic or real human hair wig. Here’s what to consider when selecting between the two.

The main difference between synthetic and human hair wigs is the material used to make them. Synthetic wigs are made from fibers such as nylon or acrylic and are put through a rigorous process to ensure they feel, look, and can be styled similarly to human hair. Human hair wigs are made from natural human hair and are the most realistic. However, they are often more expensive.

Synthetic wigs

Synthetic wigs have a host of benefits, with the first being how easy they are to maintain and take care of. If you’re someone who likes to style their hair, synthetic hair has “style retention,” meaning not only do they hold their style in all weathers, but once you’ve styled it, you can simply wash, dry, and shake it out before starting over again. Synthetic wigs are also much cheaper than the alternative and have a huge range of styles, colors, and lengths depending on the look you’re going for. While there are many benefits, a synthetic wig can sometimes look cheap, not last as long as human hair wigs, and you can’t dye them to change the color.

Human hair wigs

Human hair wigs come in a range of styles, colors, and textures, making it easier to match your natural hair or try something completely different should you wish! The longevity of human hair wigs is also a lot longer than that of synthetic ones, and even if you wear them daily, they can last a year or more. Looking and feeling very natural, you can also style, dye, and treat your human hair wig just as you would your own hair. Some cons of human hair wigs include the fact they’re more high maintenance than synthetic wigs, tend to be more expensive, and react to the weather in a similar way to your own hair.

Both synthetic and human hair wigs have their pros and cons, and it’s down to you to decide which is right for you. At Genesis II, we can help you decide what would work best for your individual needs if you’re considering a wig. To schedule a free consultation, click here.
