self-esteemHair loss sometimes happens for a variety of reasons; it can be as you grow older or due to a physical condition. The loss of something that gives us pride is never easy and it is understandable that it affects your self-esteem.

Why Does Hair Loss Happen?

As mentioned, there are a number of reasons why someone may experience hair loss and here are just a few:

Alopecia Areata

This is a condition where the autoimmune destruction of the hair follicles affects specific parts of the skin. Alopecia affects all types of people but typically those between 30 and 60 years of age.

Aging

Hair loss is natural as you grow older and this is due to the hair cycles. Our hair goes through three phases during our lifespan. There is a growth stage, a transition stage, and a resting phase. During the growth phase, there are several years of hair growth and then during the transition phrase it is getting ready to fall out. During the resting phase is when it does start to fall out more often because as you grow older, you are in the resting phase when it comes to your hair.

Anemia, Thyroid Disease, Low Vitamin Levels, and Protein Deficiencies

There are many other causes of hair loss, including these mentioned. Some are minimized through medication or correcting the issue in the first place, like fixing a protein deficiency.

Hair Loss Can Lead to Lower Self-Esteem

For many, experiencing hair loss leads to embarrassment, depression, feeling less attractive, and an overall lower self-esteem. It can make you feel like others are judging you, especially in a society that puts so much weight on your appearance.

This is understandable and thankfully, there are alternatives that help you recover your confidence and feel like facing the world again.
