Hair Styles for the Holiday Season

The holiday season is almost upon us and it’s time to start planning your party hair. Styling thinning hair can take some ingenuity, but it doesn’t have to mean spending hours in front of the mirror. Inspired by the fashion world, Here are three styles guaranteed to make you look and feel great without hair replacement surgery.

Sophisticated Side Chignon

Difficulty Level: Moderate

Time: 10 minutes

Side chignons are set to be one of the most popular hair styles for the 2015 holiday season, thanks to Galia Lahav’s fall/winter collection. They’re easy to create and work well with thick and thin hair.

To get this style, gather your hair into a low side ponytail, leaving out a 3-inch-wide section of hair in front of the ponytail. Use a curling iron to create soft waves in this section, then wrap the section around the ponytail base and secure it in place with hair grips. Add volume to the ponytail by teasing it with a comb, then twist the ponytail until it curls into a chignon that covers your ear. Secure the chignon with hair grips and spritz with hairspray for extra hold.

Poker-Straight Ponytail

Difficulty Level: Easy

Time: 30 minutes

Dior was one of the leading names rocking the poker-straight ponytail on the runway this year. Thinning hair can fall flat in a ponytail, but a great way to combat this is to create a double ponytail.

To try this look, straighten your hair until it’s smooth over all. Create a part that suits your style, then divide your hair into an upper and lower section. Pull the upper section into a ponytail that sits lower than your ears and secure it with a discreet hair tie. Then take the lower section and create a second ponytail, closer to the nape of your neck. Ensure the upper ponytail falls on top of the lower ponytail, creating an illusion of one thick, long ponytail. Secure the upper ponytail with a decorative hair tie or barrette.

Trendy Tousled Tresses

Difficulty: Moderate

Time: 30 to 60 minutes

Loose, natural curls were all the rage on Gucci’s fall/winter runways. Perfect for those who need to add volume due to hair loss, this fuss-free hairdo oozes retro glamour.

To sport this style, wash your hair and partially blow-dry it while hanging your head upside down. Separate your hair into several sections, loosely roll each section and secure using hair grips. Dry each section completely before removing the grips and unraveling your hair.

Styling thinning hair for the holiday season is easier than you think. With a little know-how, you can take your hair from fine to fabulous with minimal effort.
