Braided Summer StyleJust keeping it short isn’t the only hairstyle for summer! Short, medium or long, the key to summer hair is “easy.” Whether you’re bound for the beach or out for a glamorous Island party, you’ll want to look great without a lot of fuss.

Safety First!

Keeping your hair healthy takes a little more work in the summer. Sun, sand, heat and chemicals can really do a number on it. A few precautions to keep your tresses terrific:

Classic Summer Style

Short hair is a favorite summer look with a minimum of fuss. If you’re going for the classic blunt or pixie cut this year, try jazzing it up with highlights. Summer is just made for the new “messy” look, with hair cut in layers and air-dried. Medium-length hair looks great “scrunch-dried” especially if touched with pale highlights.

Ponytails and Buns

These are the simplest of longhair summer styles, which is why they’re a favorite. The 2016 ponytail is high and straightened for a haute-fashion look. Buns this year are relaxed, slightly messy and softer, with tendrils pulled out around the face for a romantic look. Think Jane Austen!

Braids

Another longhair favorite is braids. This summer, they’ll be embellished with braided-in colored ribbon or contrasting fake hair or metallic cords for flash. Wrap them around your head for evening, make one long side braid or wear them at the nape of the neck. Fishtails look classy, but casual.

Volume

Hair, especially fine hair, can wilt in summer heat and humidity. Any hair length can benefit from volumizer, but it works wonders on short or medium hair that’s been feathered or layered. To use it, make sure you rub it well into your hands so that it coats your hair without clumps. Then run your fingers through your hair from roots to tips, styling it as you go, and let it dry.

Ornaments

Fashion runways are full of glamorous, glorious hair ornaments this year. Jewels, metallic ribbons, hair bands and even tiny tiaras are making their appearance! For summer, though, you can’t beat silk flowers. They look great in braids, buns, for decorating a ponytail or tucked behind the ear, in single wispy blooms or beautiful bunches.

There are so many options this summer season. So why choose? Try them all!
