Rancho Tehama School Shooting
Preparedness and Quick Thinking Saved Multiple Lives
CEO and Co-Founder of Armoured One Tom Czyz’s appearance on Fox News KTVU in Northern California discussing school shooting preparations and the Rancho Tehama Elementary School shooting.
One of the most terrifying and deadliest scenarios for a school shooting is a playground full of children with a gunman on a rampage heading toward them.
This deadly scenario was avoided at the Rancho Tehama Elementary School because the staff and faculty acted quickly and appropriately.
The sound of gunshots was recognized and the young children were immediately rushed inside where the school was placed on lock down and barricaded. “There’s cause for hope. If we can lock down and we can eliminate ourselves as an apparent target, our kids can go home at the end.”
‘The difference between 100 kids being around today and dozens being shot or killed’ said Corning Union Elementary School District Superintendent Richard Fitzpatrick.
The shooter was able to enter the quad area of the school by driving through a fence. He began shooting at the buildings but was unable to enter the school.
“When an active shooter begins shooting, on average someone is shot every eight seconds, so every second counts in your decision making. If the bad guy’s outside like what happened at Rancho Elementary you are safer inside and begin barricading so he can’t make his way inside easily.” Said Tom Czyz, CEO and Co -Founder of Armoured One.
“I think the school’s response was tremendous, the staff at Rancho Tehama Elementary were prepared, and the proof was in the minimal injuries we saw at the school” says Czyz “Hearing the heroic events of maintenance staff yelling and getting people inside and getting them to barricade down was an incredible response.”
Armoured One trains faculty and staff Nationwide to run hide/barricade fight and offers products designed to protect the innocent and slow down the attacker. At Rancho Tehama Elementary school, they were prepared to react to the unthinkable.
“A lot of schools across America want to pretend that this isn’t going to happen and they don’t take it seriously, and we have to face the reality that this is hitting the news every week in the United States, whether it was the shooting in Nevada or down in Texas at the church, says Czyz.
“So, preparation is the key, getting prepared for what could happen, preparing your staff and investing time into them on what to do. That way it becomes muscle memory, the more you practice the more you do it your brain catches up with your body, and preparation is what does that for you,” said Czyz.
Armoured One is comprised of subject matter experts on active shooter, which means we develop the best in security assessments, training, and products that equip people and buildings with the right tools needed to slow down an attacker.
