hairThe holidays are meant to be a time of joy and celebration, but for many people, the demands that often accompany this time of the year can cause stress and worry. Left unchecked, holiday stress can ruin your festivities and affect the health of your hair. Fortunately, there are steps you can take to minimize stress and keep your locks healthy. Here are some tips to help you get started.

Maintain Healthy Habits

Avoid skipping meals, especially breakfast. Have a healthy snack before parties so that you don’t overindulge in unhealthy foods. At parties, avoid stacking your plate with food and limit your consumption of foods that contain fat and sugar. Take healthy snacks to parties where you’re invited to contribute food. Avoid excessive alcohol consumption, and aim to drink enough water to stay hydrated. Finally, set aside time for exercise and relaxation techniques, and get at least seven hours of sleep each night.

Look After Your Hair

Wash it at most every other day, using a shampoo suited to your hair type. After shampooing, apply a conditioner to help soften it. Avoid excessive use of hairdryers and other heat styling tools and limit your use of products. Brush it with a boar bristle brush and remove tangles from the ends upwards using a plastic or vulcanite saw-cut comb. If you use accessories, avoid those that will snag, pinch or pull on your hair. Remove all accessories before you go to sleep.

Know Your Limits

Remember that you’re only one person and there’s a limit to how much you can do. If you feel overwhelmed, focus on what you can do, not on what you can’t. Avoid striving for perfection in everything you do; be gentle with yourself and have realistic expectations. When you have multiple obligations, it may help to prioritize. If that isn’t possible, don’t be afraid to ask for help or turn down less important activities or events.

Managing holiday stress is easier than you might think. By following these tips, you can minimize stress and keep your hair healthy.
