coconut oilHaving beautiful, shiny hair isn’t always easy to do, especially if your hair is color treated or damaged. Fortunately, an affordable way to hydrate your hair and create an amazing luster is available at your local grocery store. Coconut oil has been all the rave for many different reasons in the beauty community and the following guide provides insight on why it should be added to your grocery list today.

Eating Coconut Oil Heals Your Hair from the Inside Out

Coconut oil is great for your hair because it’s filled with Vitamin E and fatty acids that provide it with the nutrients needed to grow healthy and strong. It contains anti-aging properties and antioxidants that can keep your hair from graying and reduce hair loss. You can use coconut oil when cooking foods or simply add a spoon of it to your next cup of coffee. Use a hand mixer to blend it as it can sit on top of the coffee and feel a bit oily if it isn’t mixed in well.

Use Coconut Oil as a Leave-in Conditioner

Coconut oil can also add luster and sheen to your hair if you use it as a leave-in conditioner. Coconut oil melts at 76 degrees so you can simply rub a small amount of it on the tips of your fingers and add it to towel dry hair before drying it with a blow dryer. The oil should only be added midway down the shaft of your hair as it can sit on your scalp and make your hair look oily throughout the day. The oil protects the hair and can help it to stay smooth and easy to detangle as the day goes on.

Use Coconut Oil to Deep Condition Your Hair

Coconut oil can also be great to use as a deep conditioner. Many people choose to deep condition their hair once a week to help provide it with the moisture it needs to stay healthy and strong. Apply large amounts of the oil throughout your dry strands. Put on a shower cap and sleep with the oil in your hair throughout the night. Wash your hair thoroughly in the morning and you should be able to see a significant difference in how soft and manageable your hair is once it’s dry.

Coconut oil is very affordable and a jar of it will typically last you at least a month or more depending on the length of your hair. It’s best to store the oil in a cool, dark place to ensure that it doesn’t melt before you need to use it. If it does, you can simply stick it in the fridge to harden it up to make it easier to use.
