Gorgeous, healthy hair should be a God-given right, but alas, some of us have to fight tooth and nail for it. Your hair, just like anything else, thrives on the attention you give to it. By treating it right, you too can have that healthy, sexy hair you’ve always wanted.
So, how?
Let’s talk about that a bit. Taking care of your hair is how you wash it and what kinds of products you use on it to maintain it. For example:
1. Wash your luscious locks regularly according to your hair type. With oily hair, you’ll have to wash it every day to keep it looking good, but other hair types don’t need as much attention. If your hair is dry or chemically treated, washing less often prevents damage. But if you see those nasty, white flakes in your hair, you’re not washing enough. Pick up the pace.
2. Concentrate on washing your scalp rather than your length of hair. Not washing the scalp creates fly-away hair. Scrubbing the scalp removes build-up that causes static and breakage resulting in fine hairs that stick out rather than lying flat.
3. Use the right products for your hair. Fine, oily hair doesn’t have the same needs as dry, or say, African-American hair. Fine, oily hair may need a clarifying agent such as alpha-hydroxy acids, which reduce leftover product residue and oils; whereas natural hair needs special considerations like a sulfate-free shampoo and regular oil treatments.
4. Always use a nutrient-dense conditioner formulated for your hair type. A rich nourishing conditioner improves your hair’s elasticity and natural shine. It also provides the benefits of smoothing and detangling your hair, making all that much easier to style and letting your beautiful, healthy hair shine.
5. Concentrate on applying conditioner to the ends of your hair. The ends of your hair are the most fragile and take the most abuse. From tangles and brushing to wind and hot styling irons, they really take a beating. So, give those ends a little extra love with a big dose of conditioner.
6. Pre-dry your hair. After jumping out of the shower squeaky clean, take the time to pre-dry your hair. Pre-drying doesn’t involve much, just wrap your head in a towel for a while before you dry. This will remove about 70 percent of the excess water that remains in your hair. Use a hydrating gel before blow-drying to protect the hair from the heat your blow dryer generates. This is the most important step in caring for your hair and gives that extra volume.
7. Keep your ends trimmed regularly. Regular trimming actually helps heal your ends, which results in strong healthy hair growth.
8. Eat healthy for healthy hair. Your hair depends on the nutrients you put into your body to sustain its growth. Lean proteins, nuts and seeds and fresh fruits and veggies give your body everything it needs to grow beautiful hair.
